About the Event
Welcome to my 'My Rainbow Kitchen' Summer Holiday Cookery Classes. I will be running a total of 5 Holiday classes this August:
2nd August: Japanese - Sushi & Mango Ice cream Cookie Sandwiches (FULL)
6th August: Picnic Special - Sausage rolls + Sweet Mustard Dip + Potato Salad + Eton Mess (+ Homemade Lemonade) - (4 spaces left)
13th August: Oriental - Steamed Pork Dumplings + Onigiri + Mango Eton Mess + Matcha Shortbread
Wk beginning 19th August: Italian - Â Fresh Pasta Tortellini filled with Meat Bolognese served with Tomato Sauce + Â Seasonal Berry Tiramisu
Wk begining 26th August - Mexican - Baja Style Crispy Fish Tacos with Tex mex Slaw + Creamy Chipotle Sauce + Churros with Cinnamon Sugar & Chocolate Sauce
For those that don’t know me already, my name is Sayjel Patel and I am a qualified chef and dietitian. I have been running children's cookery classes for the past 10 years. The aim of my club is to encourage your child to learn about ‘good food' and to explore new flavours in an educational and fun way.
During a typical session we will cover 2-3 recipes using quality ingredients. Â We informally discuss aspects of nutrition, food science, seasonality and where ingredients originate from. Each recipe will be utilising 1 or more essential cooking skills.

I am also changing the format slightly. Summer Holiday Clubs previously ran for 3.5 hours and would be quite rushed due to the technical skills required for some of the recipes. This August the Clubs will be 4 hours but with a 20-30 minute break with a healthier homemade snack or drink which will be demonstrated in the class. I will also be stating the specific age range that the class will be geared to.
In our 3rd Holiday class we will have an Oriental twist on the dishes! Â
The children will  learn to correctly season the pork filling for their Siu Mai Dim Sum. We will have available a Prawn or Vegetarian Alternative available.  They will assemble their dumplings using wonton pastry then steam in a bamboo steamer. I will also demonstate a simple Ongiri (Japanese skyle Arancini). We will prepare a simple Soy Dipping Sauce then arrange Dim Sum & Onigri in a sushi style presentation box with sauce and chopsticks to take home.

For the quick Mango Eton Mess, I will demonstrate how to make a quick Eton Mess from Homemade Meringue, Creme Chantilly and Mango. Â We will toast coconut flakes for a crunchy topping.
In addition we will be making some Japanese inspired Matcha Shortbread.Â
The children will take home their prepared dishes in food grade packaging so they can enjoy at home and share with their families. I will provide a small snack and drinking water. Please ensure your children have an adequate lunch though before attending the class.
This will be sure to challenge your child's culinary skills but will also be a lot of fun!
This class is suitable for children aged 9-15 years old.
Please note, if you would like to form your own group maybe with your child/children and their friends, please do contact me as I have a few Summer dates available in July & September for private group bookings. If there are 6 children in total, the price cost per child works out similar to the Holiday Clubs and can be tailored to your children's needs. This way you and your children can decide what to make or what they would like to learn to cook!

This will be in its 2nd successful year. Last year traditional meals and main dishes from around the world including chow mein, neapolitan pizza, kofta kebabs, fresh pasta in addition to sweet treats such as churros, lemon drizzle cake & crepes.

Allergen information: this course uses wheat & dairy. For gluten, lactose and milk protein intolerances may be able to substitute but for more information regarding the ingredients used, please contact me before booking your course.
Please book early to avoid disappointment. Once the class is at full capacity, I will not be able to take on any more children unfortunately.
