About the Event

Welcome to 'My Rainbow Kitchen' Holiday Cookery Classes. I will be running approximately 5 children's Holiday Classes this Summer (2 in July and 3 in August) and also plan to organise some 'Preparing for University' Cookery Classes for 17-18 year olds at the end of August and Beginning of September.

My name is Sayjel Patel and I am a qualified chef and dietitian. I have been running children's cookery classes for the past 10 years. The aim of my club is to encourage your child to learn about ‘good’ food and to explore new flavours in an educational and fun way. We informally discuss aspects of nutrition, food science, seasonality and where ingredients originate from. Each recipe will be utilising 1 or more cooking skills.

In the third of our Summer Classes, we will be covering some Japanese Classics and will make some Crispy Tempura Sushi Rolls. These can be rolled Traditionally or as inside out California Rolls. We will make our own sushi rice and learn to season correctly. We will  go on to make crispy tempura prawns or oyster mushrooms (for vegetarians) as a filling for our sushi together with carefully julienned vegetables. We will make a Soy Dipping Sauce to accompany our Sushi Rolls.

We will also make light and airy Chiffon Sponge and for our Japanese Roll Cake (which is a Japanese version of Swiss Roll). The recipe is based on the light and fluffy Japanese Cotton Cake. Once cooked this will be filling with a light Creme Chantilly and served with fresh seasonal strawberries.

Please do not send your child if they or any other household member are experiencing covid related or flu symptoms.

Allergen information: this course uses wheat and dairy. I may be able to substitute but for more information regarding the ingredients used, please contact me before booking your course.

Please book early to avoid disappointment. Once the class is at full capacity, I will not be able to take on any more children unfortunately.

These classes are suitable for Children 9 years and above.  Teens are also welcome!
